See how Miriam’s Kitchen completed a Nonprofit Success Pack migration with Fíonta, resulting in improved data quality, automation, and cross-team coordination.
Miriam’s Kitchen is a Washington, DC based nonprofit working to end chronic homelessness through a combination of advocacy and direct services. Known for its dignity-first approach, the organization supports individuals with housing, health care, and connection to community resources, while advocating for systemic change in homelessness policy. Miriam’s Kitchen engages a diverse network of supporters, including donors, volunteers, and policymakers, all of whom rely on the organization’s ability to coordinate information across teams.

Miriam’s Kitchen partnered with Fíonta for a strategic technology consultation to maximize value from its Salesforce ecosystem. The engagement began with a high-level assessment and evolved into a phased implementation roadmap that culminated in a full Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) migration, positioning Miriam’s Kitchen for long-term scalability. Along the way, Fíonta provided comprehensive diagnostics, strategic recommendations, and managed services to modernize Salesforce, streamline operations, and support internal capacity building.
Client Needs
Miriam’s Kitchen had been using Salesforce since 2013, and as its programs, staff, and data systems grew, the organization saw an opportunity to bring its platform configuration up to the same level of sophistication. Staff wanted to move past manual processes, tighten up data consistency, get more value from underutilized integrations, and connect communications that had grown siloed across departments. Leadership was looking for a clearer path to use Salesforce strategically and build internal capacity for data stewardship going forward.
Fíonta’s Plan
Fíonta led a cross-functional discovery process involving six departments and nearly 100 user stories. Using diagnostic tools including Field Trip and Xappex, alongside interviews and documentation review, Fíonta identified the organization’s key improvement opportunities and designed a phased approach to address them. The engagement then transitioned into an Accent Managed Services contract, giving Miriam’s Kitchen a sustainable path to work through the backlog and optimize operations over time.
That work spanned several areas. Fíonta evaluated the full tech stack, business processes, and Salesforce configuration through a macro assessment, then launched a six-month Accent contract to implement recommendations incrementally. The team designed automated workflows for receipts, acknowledgments, and reporting, consolidated duplicate records, cleaned up legacy fields, and restructured layouts. A significant part of the effort involved transitioning custom legacy fields to standard NPSP objects, positioning the system for easier long-term support. Fíonta also developed user training plans and helped establish internal governance so data and process ownership could be shared sustainably across departments.
Immediate and Ongoing Results
Miriam’s Kitchen’s NPSP migration produced immediate usability improvements alongside long-term planning capacity. The organization gained confidence in its data, increased visibility across teams, and reduced staff time spent on manual tasks. New governance structures and staff training have positioned the organization to maintain and extend these improvements on its own.
- Improved data hygiene, with reduced duplicates and standardized key data fields
- Streamlined workflows, including automated gift acknowledgments and integrated major systems
- Enhanced reporting, giving departments an easier way to generate and analyze performance data
- Stronger internal capacity, with trained staff and clearer roles for Salesforce administration
- A future-proof CRM, now built on NPSP standards for better scalability and support
With a modernized platform and a clearer governance framework in place, Miriam’s Kitchen is better equipped to focus its energy on the work that matters most, supporting the people it serves and advancing lasting change in homelessness policy.
