National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
Working to advance accomplished teaching for all students

Transforming online communities
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards’ (NBPTS) expensive and inflexible community platform resulted in low member adoption, limited data-gathering capabilities, and limited visibility. Fíonta collaborated with the NBPTS to extend their Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) with a highly customized and branded online community on Experience Cloud.
Challenges
- Costly community tool
- Limited and inflexible design
- Issues with data accessibility and user roles
Solutions
- Integrate Experience and Marketing Cloud with NPSP
- Design platform to match NBPTS’ branding and website
- Implement complex shared rules
- Integrate tools
Results
- Improved data access based on user roles
- Improved insights into applicants, candidates, and member engagement
- Enhanced member experience
Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (formerly Pardot) has been really helpful in terms of the automated emails, engagement paths, and one-on-one emails we could set up for routine requests.
Project highlights
-
Custom data access rules
Complex shared rules ensured appropriate data access and views based on user roles, offering more detailed information about applicants and candidates within geographic areas.
-
Enhanced member experience
The new community matches NBPTS’ branding and provides members with a trusted online experience, improving overall engagement.
-
Streamlined processes
Integrations with Demand Tools, Cvent, Clicktools, and Einstein Analytics enhanced data gathering and provided valuable insights into member engagement. NBPTS now has the confidence to create additional online communities independently when needed.

Project Summary
Fíonta extended NBPTS’ Salesforce investments, integrating Experience and Marketing Cloud with NPSP to create a highly customized online community. The new platform was designed to match NBPTS’ branding and website, offering robust member engagement and real-time insights while streamlining data access and gathering processes.
Additionally, implementing complex shared rules ensured that data access and views were tailored to the user’s role. Integrating tools such as Demand Tools, Cvent, Clicktools, and Einstein Analytics further streamlined processes and provided valuable insights into member engagement, enhancing NBPTS’s ability to meet its members’ evolving needs effectively.
The partnership with Fíonta empowered the organization to independently grow its community spaces as needed, without the intervention of additional third-party developers, and fostered a culture of successful citizen developers.
Outcomes
The new communities are styled and designed to match NBPTS’ branding and website better, giving members the confidence to trust the online experience. Complex shared rules now enable appropriate data access and views based on user role, and additional enhancements, including Demand Tools, Cvent, Clicktools, and Einstein Analytics, streamline processes and provide valuable insights into member engagement. The NBPTS team is now confident in building additional online communities as needed.
