Week three of Fíonta’s NPSP to Nonprofit Cloud webinar series turned the mic over to a client who has lived through the process: Sonny Wilkinson, Associate VP of Philanthropy and Planned Giving at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Sonny walked attendees through OMRF’s full migration timeline, from initial budgeting and staff buy-in in early 2024 through a planned pause over the year-end fundraising season and a go-live in April, plus a subsequent Marketing Cloud implementation. He was candid about lessons learned along the way, particularly that moving from NPSP to Nonprofit Cloud is a full implementation and new data model, not a simple data transfer, and that budgeting and timeline planning need to reflect that scope.
Sonny detailed how NPC’s separation of gift commitments, gift transactions, and third-party payments solved long-standing auditing headaches from NPSP’s single opportunity record, and how the shift from households to person accounts better reflected OMRF’s donor relationships. He also highlighted concrete wins: faster gift entry, richer reporting across objects, tag-based donor segmentation, and a $250,000 first time gift surfaced through improved prospect visibility. Throughout, Sonny emphasized the value of building strong relationships with both the implementation partner and the Salesforce account team, since Nonprofit Cloud’s rapid pace of new feature releases rewards organizations that stay closely connected to the roadmap.
